Hello! You know your friends are true friends when they let you go through their trash, right? ;) Well, Robyn from Create it. Go! is just that ~ a true friend! ha! We actually live in the same neighborhood, & one day a few months ago I noticed she was throwing out an old cabinet out by her curb. So of course, she said I could have it when I ran up to her door! Actually, I sent my daughter up to her door. ;) So today I’m excited to show you how I transformed an old cabinet with this easy Craft Cabinet Makeover. So let’s get started!
I didn’t do a true before picture. We had done a little bit of work before I remembered to take pictures. Robyn had been using this cabinet as a TV armoire. So it only had one shelf. We added another shelf. We also added pegboard to the back of the cabinet. We totally replaced the bottom of the cabinet with a new piece of plywood. Then my husband fabricated a trim piece to go along the bottom edge. We also added wheels to the bottom. It’s new home was going to be in our sunroom that also doubles as a movie room for my kiddos & their friends. We needed to be able to easily slide it over when it was time to project a movie on the wall. The wheels are awesome! I also filled in a few places with wood filler & sanded them smooth after the wood filler had dried. I also removed all the old hardware. Now it was time to paint!
I used Americana Decor Chalky Finish in Relic to paint my cabinet.
This paint is awesome because you need to do very little prep work, it dries fast, comes in lots of colors, provides great coverage & looks great. I used a foam roller brush to apply my paint.
I believe this picture was taken after two coats. I could of stopped there, but I went ahead & put on another coat. I also used this same color paint on my bench makeover! After the paint dried I distressed the cabinet with a sander, & then I gave the whole cabinet 2 coats of clear wax. Then I buffed it with a rag.
About this time I was contacted by D. Lawless Hardware to see if I had any projects that I could use some of their amazing hardware on. Well….talk about perfect timing! ha! So for this cabinet I used these cabinet pulls.
I also used these cute metal label holders from D. Lawless Hardware on each drawer. I am kind of obsessed with these label holders! I kind of want to use them everywhere in my house! ha! For under a $1 each I probably could! :)
Next, it was time to fill this cabinet up! Annnnd that didn’t take long at all! ha! I filled the bottom two drawers with my vinyl rolls. These are not all of my rolls, but I use these colors the most. I’m kind of a vinyl addict!
For the skinny drawer I found the perfect organizers at Target. I love them!
In the drawer that’s inside the doors I store all my Silhouette(affiliate) supplies like cutting mats & specialty media.
On the shelves I house all of my Silhouettes ~ CAMEO, Mint, Portrait & my Curio. Yes, I’m a Silhouette hoarder, too! My Portrait is hiding behind my CAMEO. ;) The basket on the bottom shelf holds all of my power cords. It has three compartments.
I am loving having a little bit more space to hold all of my craft supplies! It’s amazing what a little paint & new hardware can do! Let me know what your working on! I’d love to hear. Leave a comment below. :)
