Our Yard Projects with The Home Depot {updates} #digin #ad

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of The Home Depot. I am thrilled to be working with The Home Depot this spring to make our yard & garden beautiful! :) #digin #ad

I hope you’ve enjoyed following along as we made some fun improvements in our yard this spring. We had so much fun working together as a family. It was fun to #digin & tackle some fun projects with a little help from The Home Depot. We are enjoying our new herb garden, and our kiddos can’t wait to go back to another The Home Depot Kids Workshop soon! We have also been inspired to take on even more fun DIY projects around our house & yard. Keep reading for some fun updates on our spring yard projects. :)

DIY Herb Garden #digin

Two weeks ago I shared how we built our DIY Herb Garden.  Well, so far so good! Our herbs are growing really well. We have had a lot of rain over the past two weeks, too! So we haven’t even had to water them much at all. You can tell they have grown a lot since we planted them. So exciting! :)

#dig herb & vegetable plant food

We bought some herb & vegetable liquid fertilizer for our herbs at The Home Depot. I love that they have the instructions right on top of the lid…so helpful!

We also bought a watering can at The Home Depot to mix our plant food in. We feed them once every 7-10 days since they are out on the patio. Then we just water them as needed. The kids have fun taking turns watering the herbs.

We also added a layer of mulch to keep some of the moisture in the soil. I know it’s not going to always be this rainy, & we might not always be as good at watering as we are now. The mulch will also help in summer when it’s a little drier around here, too.

We’ve already been using some our herbs in the kitchen! We made some guacamole with some of our cilantro in it the other day. It was sooooo yummy! :)

Once we had our herb garden going it got us inspired to finish up the rest of the yard. Yay! Do you remember our before pictures? Ick! It was pretty rough around our yard. So last week my hubby & I had a date night. We got some ice cream, & then we headed to The Home Depot. Perfect date, right? I think so! ha! ;)

We bought some flowers, a few bushes & LOTS of mulch for our flower beds & pots. I spent the next day working in the yard. I had so much fun! I love getting dirty every once & awhile. ha! ;) Here are some pictures from around our yard. :)

  1. We used to have a garden every year until last year. I so want one this year and esp the herbs. Fresh basil is great on pizza! But I need to wait. What's the point in planting when you are planning on moving? Yours looks great!

  2. I love your herb garden, it is lovely and you built a great home for the herbs. Your flowers look great too.....Love the Hosta!! Have a great weekend!

  3. Love this! Just saw it on a DIY yard television show! Just pinned to Pinterest. I love this because it tilts away from the home's fascia so don't have to worry about water!

  4. I ❤ this idea and yes it has been pinned! I do have one question/thought for you. Did you put any drain holes in the bottom of the troughs? I was thinking about water and where the extra water goes. Then I thought about loosing the dirt and thought...drain holes and use screen mesh on the bottom of each trough, so as not to loose the dirt. Make any sense?

  5. Thanks everyone! We really love it, too! :)

@deebi27 We did put drain holes in the bottom of each trough with a 1/2 inch drill bit. It lets the extra water run through. I haven't notice us loosing any dirt, so it seems to be working great. :) We even had some downpours & everything survived! :)

  6. If you are looking for a fine gentle water can then this is it and the filling port is a good design that keeps water from sloshing on you. I bought same water can from Home Depot online coupons
    Flowers looks amazing:)
