Ginger Snap Crafts: Mother’s Ribbon ~ Boy Scout Mother’s Pins {tutorial}

Mother’s Ribbon ~ Boy Scout Mother’s Pins {tutorial}

Cub Scout Mother's Necklace from
If you have a boys in Cub Scouts like me…then you know that February is Blue & Gold Banquet time! :) This week our pack is having our Blue & Gold banquet & dinner. So I made these super easy Mother’s Ribbons for all the new moms in our pack.

This are great for all those Mother’s pins that you’ll collect throughout your son’s Scouting career. I usually make a bunch at once, & then save the extras in our Scout closet.

For this project all you'll need is:

  • sewing machine
  • ribbon {red, green, yellow & blue}
  • matching thread
  • sewing supplies {needles, scissors, etc.}

I cut my ribbons approximately 18 inches long in each of the four colors ~ blue, yellow, green & red. Then I pinned the ribbons together in sets. {I pinned the blue & gold together for Cub Scouts and red & green together for Boy Scouts.}

Then you’ll sew along each side of the skinnier ribbon on each set.

Then I sewed the ends together. That’s it!

These are great for keeping track of all those pins!

  1. Funny you did this. I was given one from the scout shop with my oldest, but have always thought I should make another for my other son's pins. I think it would be great for the scouts to make for their moms for mother's day for something. :) Great job!

  2. I don't have a boy scout, but I can totally se doing this with all those Disenyland pins!

  3. How fun! My son isn't in boy scouts but this is great idea!

  4. Genius idea - I so needed this when my son was in scouts!

  5. This is GENIUS, Ginger! I have an Altoids tin full of the last year's worth of pins that I haven't done anything with {I'm awful about it}. Our scout "shop" is actually just a section in the educational supply we only have the very basics...and I've never seen one of these! Super smart!! Thanks for sharing!

  6. I just bought all of the stuff to make these for the mom's in our Pack! Thanks for sharing this, can't wait to see how they turn out and how excited the mom's are when I give them to them at Blue & Gold!

  7. Love this idea! Thanks for posting directions too. My little guy just started Tigers.

  8. I love this idea as well!! My son is a Tiger Cub AND I just so happen to be his Den Leader!! We are preparing for our Blue and Gold too. I am going to be making these for the other 3 mom's of my Tiger's and, of course, one for myself! I think I will probably make extras for future new scout mom's.

  9. what width of ribbons did you use?

  10. Great idea! Do you just wear them draped around your neck?
